For football fans, the wait is almost over. Baton Rouge bars and restaurants will kick off the season August 30 with a mix of food, drinks, live music and plenty of TVs airing the first football game of the season.North Gate Tavern will open its doors at 11 a.m. so fans can pregame with jambalaya and $10 all-day, all-you-can-drink Bud Light before the Tigers play Appalachian State at 4 p.m., said manager Danny Moore. Fans can enjoy the game on the TVs inside or outside. Cover is free, and live music will begin at 8 p.m. Walk-On’s manager Kirk Layrisson said the game will play on screens throughout the restaurant and over the surround sound system, which will also blast the fight song after touchdowns. Shot and drink specials, including the signature eight-liquor, purple concoction “Death Valley,” will be featured. Fans can buy a 60 oz. Death Valley on gamedays. After the game, the band Love Sexy will perform. The Varsity Theatre will open at 11 a.m. with “Big Ass Beers,” jambalaya and red beans and rice from The Chimes. Two TVs will showcase the game, which will be followed by Elevate and DJ Triz-A at 8:30 p.m. Cover is $10 for males under 21 and $5 for everyone else. In Tigerland, Fred’s will serve gameday steaks, which will be served from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., said owner Marc Fraioli. A three-day party starting Thursday will lead up to the first game. Live music from the Urban Sophisticates will be featured Thursday, the reunited ‘80s cover band Werewolf will play Friday and ‘90s cover band The Fourth will perform after the game Saturday. Prices will range from $5 to $10. Nearby, Mellow Mushroom will air the game on its TVs, including one jumbo HD set. Drink specials, such as 22 oz. gameday cups, will run all day, co-owner Jay Bruno said. The kitchen will stay open after the game to cater to the always-packed gameday crowd, said Bruno. Boudreaux and Thibodeux’s bar and restaurant will play the game by projector and on a 50″ screen, general manager Eric LeBlanc said. After the game, fans can serve themselves from the free keg while watching blues/funk band Josh Garrett & the Bottomline from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Cover is free, and the kitchen will stay open until 9 p.m.—-
