LSU’s Richard Thompson captured the silver medal in the men’s 100 meter dash Saturday, running a personal best time of 9.89 seconds.
Thompson, who won the event in the NCAA Track and Field National Championships, ran for Trinidad and Tobago and finished second behind Usain Bolt of Jamaica.
Bolt captured the world record with a time of 9.69 seconds, breaking his own world record of 9.72. He was able to slow down nearly ten full strides before the finish line to celebrate his victory.
Walter Dix, fromer Florida State University sprinter, finished with a bronze medal for the United States with a time of 9.91 seconds
