Highly-touted cornerback and recent LSU commit Patrick Johnson will not be on campus for spring football practice after missing the spring semester registration deadline.
Scout.com and The Times-Picayune have reported that Johnson will enroll in June for the start of summer session.
The NCAA required Johnson to retake his ACT after seeing an increase from 16 to 22 between his previous two attempts on the test according to reports. A verified score of 22 is satisfactory for early enrollment, but Johnson’s retake score from Jan. 17 was not graded in time to allow him to enroll by the Jan. 24 registration deadline.
Had he made the deadline, Johnson would have been available for LSU’s spring football practice. He is considered the top-ranked defensive back in the country by both Rivals.com and Scout.com, and could see early playing time in 2008 for an LSU secondary that is replacing senior cornerbacks Chevis Jackson and Jonathan Zenon, as well as All-American senior safety Craig Steltz.
Despite the setback, Scout.com considers Johnson a solid commitment to the Tigers. Like his peers from around the country, Johnson is expected to send his official letter of intent Feb. 6. Johnson could not be reached for comment, but reportedly has no interest in changing his decision so close to National Signing Day. PRYOR DECISION
LSU fans may want to hold off on the dreams of another top-ranked quarterback signing with the Tigers. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Jeannette, Penn., quarterback Terrelle Pryor has removed LSU from consideration for his signature on National Signing Day.
Pryor is one of the most coveted recruits in the country and is still considering Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan.
