LSU hitting coach Cliff Godwin will join associate head coach Terry Rooney’s staff at Central Florida.
Both Godwin and LSU head coach Paul Mainieri confirmed the move after the LSU baseball team returned from Omaha, Neb., on Saturday afternoon.
Rooney announced June 12 he would assume head coaching duties at Central Florida at the conclusion of the Tigers’ season, which ended Friday with a 7-3 loss to North Carolina.
“I was like the quarterbacks coach here at LSU,” Godwin told The Advocate. “And now I’m going to be like the offensive coordinator at UCF.”
Under Godwin’s guidance, LSU batted .306 as a team this season and hit 100 home runs. Five of the Tigers’ regular starters had batting averages over .300, led by Blake Dean, who finished the year batting .353.
