The University of Central Florida announced on Monday that former LSU hitting coach Cliff Godwin will join former associate head coach Terry Rooney’s staff at Central Florida.
Rooney was named Central Florida’s coach June 12. LSU coach Paul Mainieri and Godwin confirmed the move Saturday afternoon.
“Cliff and I have been together for the last three years, and I have seen firsthand why he is regarded as one of the top offensive coaches in the nation,” Rooney said in a news release. “Cliff has developed individually some of the best position players in the country and inputted an offensive philosophy into many of the best programs in college baseball.”
Mainieri said Saturday he is excited that both will have the opportunity to advance their careers.
Rooney said Godwin will serve as recruiting coordinator – a position Rooney held at LSU for the past two seasons.
Godwin said it will be an honor to serve as Rooney’s top assistant.
“We are really good friends first and foremost, and we have been working hand in hand for three years now,” Godwin said in the news release. “Anytime you leave a place like LSU, it’s a tough decision. But I am going to be working with a guy who has the same beliefs as I do, and that’s what made this decision easy.”
