Central Florida named LSU associate head coach Terry Rooney its head coach, the university announced today.
Rooney is finishing his second season as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at LSU under coach Paul Mainieri.
“We are thrilled to have Terry and his wife, Shaun, join the UCF Athletics family,” UCF Director of Athletics and Executive Vice President Keith R. Tribble said in a news release. “Terry’s on and off the field successes have been apparent over the years, and we are excited to have him lead our program as it starts a new chapter.”
Mainieri said Wednesday that Rooney accepting the Central Florida job would not jeopardize his role with the Tigers as they begin College World Series play Sunday against North Carolina.
