LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri was named Co-National Coach of the Year on Tuesday by CollegeBaseballInsider.com.
Mainieri shared the honor with Stanford coach Mark Marquess.
Both Stanford and LSU will participate in the 2008 College World Series, which begins this weekend in Omaha, Neb.
LSU is returning to the the College World Series after a two-year absence from NCAA postseason play.
The Tigers (48-17-1) enter the College World Series having won 19 more games than the 2007 team.
Mainieri led the Tigers to a Southeastern Conference-record 23-game winning streak this season as well as an SEC tournament championship.
Mainieri and Marquess were selected from a group of five finalists, including North Carolina coach Mike Fox, Nebraska coach Mike Anderson and Georgia coach Dave Perno.
North Carolina and Georgia will also participate in the College World Series.
The Tigers, making their 14th College World Series appearance, will open play Sunday evening against Mike Fox’s Tar Heels.
