Dennis LaRavia, a former University employee who founded the rural family medicine residency program at Bogalusa Medical Center in 2005, has filed a civil suit against the University, according to today’s edition of The Advocate.
The suit claims that University officials libeled and slandered LaRavia, who was fired in December, when they told his colleagues and residents of Bogalusa – a town in Washington Parish near the Mississippi border – that there were concerns about his “billing practices and professional competence,” according to the report.
LaRavia denied the allegations and told The Advocate that the allegations have been “very hurtful.”
LSU System counsel Ray Lamonica told the paper Friday that the University is “prepared to defend the litigation.”
