Gov. Bobby Jindal announced at a press conference this morning that he has vetoed the bill that would have doubled pay for state legislators, The Associated Press reported today.
“I made a mistake in telling [legislators] that we were going to stay out of it,” Jindal said.
Jindal also said he expects legislators to be upset with him for changing his mind.
“I hope they take their anger out on me and not the people of Louisiana,” he said.
The pay raise would have increased legislators’ pay from $16,800 to $37,500. Jindal had previously said he opposed the measure but would not veto it.
