AUBURN, Ala. — Senior Niko Dalman captured runner-up honors in the one-meter springboard, and freshman Katie Lybbert tied for fourth-place in the three-meter to lead LSU on the opening day of the Auburn Diving Invitational in Auburn, Ala.Dalman tallied 338.35 points on six dives in the final round of the one-meter to take second. The two-time All-American went back and forth with Auburn’s Kelly Marx, the SEC champion in the event last season, but Marx would prevail, edging LSU’s fifth-year senior with a 342.55 score.Lybbert secured 268.85 points in the final round of the three-meter to tie Alabama’s Baylee Ellson for fourth. The freshman from Argyle, Texas notched a season-high 273.65 points in the preliminaries, just seven points shy of the NCAA Zone Regional qualifying mark. Fellow Lady Tiger Chelsea McCorvey also recorded a season-high mark in the prelims with a 257.20 score to finish eighth.Moreover, freshmen Matt Vieke and Brian Gemberling registered scores of 282.05 and 266.85 in the one-meter, respectively.”Overall, I’m really pleased with what all of the divers have done, and we still have two more days left to go,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “We’re doing some new dives, and there were developmental performances across the board.”The Auburn Diving Invitational resumes Friday at 11 a.m. (CT). The men will compete on the three-meter board, while the women will take off from the one-meter.
