Far removed from the rampant coaching gossip in Baton Rouge, former Clemson defensive coordinator Vic Koenning was hanging Christmas lights at his new Orange Beach, Ala., home Friday afternoon.Koenning’s name has circulated as a potential defensive coordinator hire for LSU coach Les Miles if co-defensive coordinators Bradley Dale Peveto and Doug Mallory do not return.”I haven’t talked to anyone from LSU in the last three or four days,” Koenning said.He resigned from Clemson on Tuesday after the school hired new coach Dabo Swinney.Koenning said he did talk to several people from LSU after he resigned but said he did not talk to Miles.”I’m sure he’s busy, and we’re not really friends like that type,” he said. “I did talk to a couple of guys when I threw my keys on the table.”Koenning, a former Kansas State linebacker, was widely rumored to be new Kansas State coach Bill Snyder’s first choice for defensive coordinator. When asked if the Kansas State job was open, Koenning answered with a cryptic “To my knowledge, it is filled.”ESPN reported late Friday afternoon that Maryland defensive coordinator Chris Cosh accepted the Kansas State position. Koenning said he expects Snyder to announce his staff Monday or Tuesday. He also said he could not comment about his travel plans for next week.—-Contact Amy Brittain at [email protected].
