Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Haywood will be named Miami of Ohio’s head coach, ESPN reported Tuesday.
The Houston native had previously served as LSU running backs coach from 1995-2002, as well as the Tigers’ special teams coordinator from 1996-1998 and 2001-2002.
The Notre Dame offensive coordinator has also spent time as an assistant at Texas, Ball State, Ohio, Army and Minnesota.
Haywood’s hiring brings the number of black head coaches in the Bowl Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) to six of 119 programs.
Haywood joins Buffalo’s Turner Gill, Miami’s Randy Shannon, Houston’s Kevin Sumlin, Eastern Michigan’s Ron English and New Mexico’s Mike Locksley.
Current LSU co-defensive coordinator Doug Mallory has reportedly been offered the defensive coordinator position under Locksley at New Mexico.
LSU’s other co-defensive coordinator, Bradley Dale Peveto, has already accepted the head coaching position at Northwestern State.
