LSU linebackers Darry Beckwith and Perry Riley have been named finalists for the Butkus Award, the Butkus Foundation announced Friday.
Beckwith, a senior Baton Rouge native, is sixth on the team with 48 tackles this season. Riley, a junior from Ellenwood, Ga., has 49 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception this season.
The Butkus Award is presented annually to the nation’s best linebacker by the Butkus Foundation. It is named after former Illinois and Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus.
LSU and USC are the only schools to have two players among this season’s finalists. Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing are the Trojans nominated.
Other Southeastern Conference players on the list include Georgia’s Rennie Currian, Florida’s Brandon Spikes, and Alabama’s Rolando McClain.
