The LSU women’s basketball team dropped a 61-57 decision to Florida State on Monday in the PMAC. LSU junior guard Allison Hightower had a career-high 20 points, but only one other Lady Tiger, freshman forward Ayana Dunning, scored in double figures.
Dunning had 11 points and six rebounds. The contest was close throughout the 40 minutes of play. Neither team led by more than 7 points. The Seminoles needed a 5-0 run at the end of the game to pull away with a win. LSU led, 57-56, with 1:15 left in the game. Florida State senior guard Mara Freshour hit a jumper with 44 seconds left to give the Seminoles a one-point lead. Sophomore guard Courtney Ward and junior forward Jacinta Monroe hit three of four free throws in the final 17 seconds to seal the win. LSU plays Nebraska at home Jan. 1 and travels to the Northeast to play Connecticut on Jan. 3. LSU lost to Connecticut, 74-69, last season in the PMAC.
