The Lady Tigers (5-3) got off to a hot start Saturday against Centenary (2-9) in Shreveport and never looked back.
Freshman forward LaSondra Barrett scored three baskets in the game’s first three minutes, and LSU scored the first five field goals of the contest.
Barrett went on to score all of her 11 points in the first half.
Junior guard Andrea Kelly scored LSU’s final 12 points of the first half to lead the team to a 43-18 halftime lead.
Kelly led all scorers with a career-high 15 points.
Junior guard Allison Hightower added 10 points, including 2-for-3 shooting from behind the arc.
LSU shot 54.4 percent from the field and buried a season-high eight 3-pointers.
“That was the best we shot the ball all year,” said LSU coach Van Chancellor. “We did some things today that we have not done in the previous seven games and that is a real positive for us heading into the break.”
But the Lady Tigers also held their fourth straight opponent to 41 points or less.
“Our defense has been solid gold for us, especially in these last four games,” Chancellor said. “We had a few more turnovers today than we normally do, but we forced a lot of turnovers as well.”
