SAN ANTONIO – Two LSU players received All-American honors the day after the team earned its third consecutive trip to the Final Four.
The Associated Press voted senior guard Seimone Augustus first team All-American
Sophomore center Sylvia Fowles received third-team honors.
Augustus, 2005 AP Player of the Year, is averaging 23 points and six rebounds per game in the NCAA Tournament and entered the tournament as the nation’s leading scorer.
“I think I’ve worked hard enough to be deserving of this,” Augustus said in a news release. “It’s just a joy being able to go into other states and have people know who you are and appreciate what you’re doing for the women’s game.”
Augustus, who was the only unanimous first-team choice, is joined by North Carolina’s Ivory Latta, Rutgers’ Cappie Pondexter, Oklahoma’s Courtney Paris and Baylor’s Sophia Young on the first team.
Fowles’ was an honorable mention selection after her freshman season in 2005.
The sophomore center is averaging 12.3 points and 11.5 rebounds in the NCAA tournament.
The AP Player of the Year will be announced this weekend in Boston at the women’s Final Four.
