University students will experience a new PAWS interface when the rush of scheduling classes begins this week.
The online application used to schedule will offer a more user-friendly format and provide easier access to course information.
Information Technology Services and the Office of the Registrar implemented a University budget-funded new application that provides several options for students such as checking for schedule conflicts, adding multiple classes at the same time and checking courses for prerequisites.
Margo Jolet, ITS planning and communications coordinator, said although programmers first began working with the application in January, the initial planning process began this past semester. Jolet said Paul M. Hebert Law Center students first used the application on March 10.
“We got a very positive reaction,” Jolet said. “I think a lot of students were surprised to see it.”
Jolet said since the application allows multiple courses to be added, ITS analysts predict fewer system errors because of a quicker scheduling process.
“The process may be quicker,” Jolet said. “This would lead to more sessions being available.”
The interface upgrade is just the first of many changes students can expect to see, Jolet said.
“After offering this new Schedule Request Application, we plan to build an advising tool and grad tracking to keep students on paths to four-year degree completion,” Jolet said.
Jolet said students who need help with the process may contact the ITS Help Desk by telephone at 578-3375, by e-mail at [email protected] or online at http://www.lsu.edu/helpdesk. Also, students can receive in-person help by visiting the first-floor lobby of the Frey Computing Services Center.
