After suffering their first loss of the season to Texas A&M on Feb. 12, the Lady Tigers rebounded and won in their first road contest of the year.
The LSU women’s tennis team defeated Florida State 5-2 Wednesday at Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
The No. 43 Lady Tigers handed the Seminoles their second loss of the season. FSU’s only loss before they played the Lady Tigers was to No. 2 Florida.
The win also marked the second top-75 opponent LSU has beaten this year.
“Going on the road and being able to beat a team like Florida State like we did today was huge for us,” LSU coach Tony Minnis said in a press release. “We were able to establish ourselves early and come home with a win.”
The Lady Tigers (5-1) split the first two doubles matches 8-3, 3-8 to begin the event. The 37th-ranked duo of LSU senior Lauren Seaman and sophomore Tiffany Tucker won the doubles point after they defeated FSU junior Nicola Slater and sophomore Tapiwa Marobela 8-5.
“Winning the doubles point gave us a lot of momentum heading into singles [play],” Minnis said.
LSU senior Camila Caliari and freshman Mykala Hedberg won their matches in two sets to earn the next two match points for the Lady Tigers.
After Slater beat LSU sophomore Anastasiya Dubova to close the gap to 3-1, Tiffany Tucker clinched the game-winning point over FSU freshman Suzanna Mansour in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
LSU senior Marina Chiarelli earned the final point for the team after she defeated FSU senior Alina Mihailescu.
Florida State scored once more when freshman Ania Rynarzewska beat Seaman in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
The Lady Tigers begin a two-game home stand 11 a.m. Saturday against Lamar.
