After winning the Tiger Invitational on Sept. 23, LSU cross country coach Mark Elliott said the women’s team ran better than he expected. On Saturday at the Auburn Invitational, the women’s team impressed Elliott again, placing sixth. “Across the board, the women ran really well,” Elliott said. “I think based on the group we had running, this is the best the women’s team has finished at a big cross country meet.” Junior Megan Broussard paced the LSU women with a No. 23 finish. Broussard also posted her career-best time, finishing the race in 17:54. Last week’s SEC Women’s Runner of the Week, Rachael Graham was the second LSU runner to finish, placing No. 28. “Rachael just continues to run extremely consistently,” Elliot said. Juniors Lindsay Day and Christy Zirkle also finished in the Top 50 for LSU. Iowa won the women’s race, with all five of its runners placing in the Top 6. The men’s team finished No. 7, thanks in part to another strong performance from senior Drew Haro. Haro finished the race No. 11 with a personal best 24:21. Haro’s time was also the fastest time by a Tiger runner this season. Freshman Alan Sticker was the next LSU runner to finish, placing No. 43. Sticker also set a personal best finishing in 25:20. Senior Jace Gohres, freshman Michael Florek, and sophomore Harold Boutte also scored for LSU. Stephen F. Austin University won the men’s meet with a total of 45 points. Both cross country teams return to action Oct. 14 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
