Power was restored to the University at about 6:30 p.m. Outages were reported after the main transmitter line feeding electricity to the area crashed around 4:25 p.m.
Evening classes remain canceled.
Vice Chancellor for Communication and University Relations Michael Ruffner said reports the University has received indicate there should be no further problems with the power.
Entergy customer service officials attributed the problem to a failed transmission line that effected at least three of its substations.
At least two incidents have been reported because the outages. Several students were trapped in an Evangeline Hall elevator for 40 minutes, and a facility services worker fell down a darkened staircase in the Life Sciences Building, injuring her leg.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a four-car pile-up at the intersection of West Parker Drive and Highland Road caused by a stoplight outage.
