The LSU Board of Supervisors will vote today on Athletic Director Skip Bertman’s proposed new contract.
The Board’s Athletic Committee voted Thursday afternoon to send Bertman’s contract before the entire Board.
The contract would begin July 1 and end June 30, 2008. According to the contract, the University would pay Bertman $425,000 for this period.
If Bertman chooses to assume the athletic director emeritus position anytime on or before June 30, 2008, his contract will extend through June 30, 2010.
As an athletic director emeritus, Bertman would encourage fundraising efforts for initiatives such as the “Forever LSU” campaign.
The Board previously delayed the contract vote March 9. LSU System spokesman Charles Zewe said Bertman’s contract added revisions to include two sentences regarding potential employment termination.
According to the previous contract, the University could end the agreement without consulting the Board. Now, the Board must approve termination without cause.
Zewe said an additional compliance clause was added requiring Bertman to abide by NCAA, Southeastern Conference and all University “rules and regulations relating to the conduct and administration of the University’s intercollegiate athletic program and the University.”
