Building 3770 in University Woods Apartments burst into flames Wednesday just before 1 a.m. According to Raleigh firefighter Jerry Page, the fire likely began outside of the complex.
“All we know is that it started on the outside and [it] worked it’s way to the roof,” Page said. “It’s under investigation and that’s all we know.”
The fire apparently emerged from a unit outside of room 101 in building 3770 and caused damaged to all three floors above.
According to Marcos Romero, a sophomore in business management, the fire broke out unexpectedly. Romero’s apartment is directly above apartment 101 and was damaged from the fire.
“That room half burned down is my room,” Romero said. “I heard a huge explosion and smelled burnt plastic. We kind of wondered what it was, then someone came out and started knocking on all of the doors and told us to get out.”
