The Baton Rouge Police Department released a report Monday afternoon on the early Friday morning alleged altercation at the Varsity Theatre involving LSU football players Ryan Perrilloux and Derrick Odom III.
LSU coach Les Miles said Monday at his weekly press luncheon that the Tigers would prepare for Saturday’s game against No. 17 Alabama as if both players will be unavailable.
“We will prepare to play without these guys, but I want to get all the information before I do anything further,” Miles said.
Perrilloux, a backup quarterback, and Odom, a backup linebacker, are identified in the report as becoming confrontational when asked to leave the Varsity at closing time.
No parties involved have been arrested, and BRPD Sgt. Don Kelly said Monday afternoon that the investigation will take at least several days to complete.
According to the report by officer Jeremy Bourgeois, Varsity owner Brent McClellan told police that bouncers were trying to clear the club but several resistant black men, including Odom and Perrilloux, hampered their efforts.
The bouncers forced the subjects out the rear exit where the fighting continued.
McClellan told police that the men said they would “come back with guns to shoot the staff and the club itself.”
Grant McGurdy, head bouncer of the Varsity, told police one of the men said he would get “a gun to shoot the bar and its workers.”
Perrilloux, labeled as “the most confrontational inside the bar,” told police that Varsity bouncers were harassing his pregnant girlfriend and physically grabbed her for no reason.
According to the report, “a bouncer grabbed [Perrilloux’s] girlfriend and held [her] in a bear hug, treating her like a man.” Perrilloux said once the fight moved outside, he felt as if his friends were “fighting off approximately 50 people.”
Perrilloux told police no one in his group of friends had any weapons and that he felt his race was cause for mistreatment.
Odom told police he also fought bouncers after observing the mistreatment of Perrilloux and his girlfriend.
McClellan told Perrilloux, Odom and the additional men that they were not welcome at the Varsity. McClellan told police he did not wish to file charges at the time.
Management at the Varsity declined comment Monday afternoon.
