Porsha Phillips, a 6-2 forward on the 2006 LSU women’s basketball team, has decided to transfer, LSU coach Van Chancellor announced Monday in a news release.
“[Phillips] and her family have asked for and been granted a release from LSU,” Chancellor said. “She has expressed to me the desire of their family to have her play closer to home. We wish [Phillips] the absolute best.”
Phillips, a freshman, averaged 3.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and just under one blocked shot per game. She played in all 38 games and started six for the Lady Tigers.
“I am disappointed that we won’t have the opportunity to coach [Phillips] as I enjoyed getting to know her and believe she has a tremendous amount of potential,” Chancellor added.
