A group of facility services workers looked on Friday as the Baton Rouge fire department extinguished a fire in the LSU Special Response Team van. The van was parked in the Facility Service parking lot across from CEBA when it began to smoke around 12:30 p.m.
LSUPD Chief Ricky Adams said officers responded after receiving a call that the van was smoking.
The cause of the fire has not been determined but smoldering mops and brooms were found inside.
The van, which does weekend work on floors in campus buildings, contained chemicals Adams said could have caused the fire.
Adams said after the fire was discovered cars were moved away from the van in case “it flamed up.”
Adams said there is no evidence the fire was suspicious in nature and had no reason to believe it was arson.
