Check lsureveille.com during the break for previews of next semester’s columnists.
The temptation of a semestrial review is to spend so much time looking back that we fail to let our readers know how we plan to move forward. This is our chance to give you a glimpse of the faces you’ll see every week in our opinion pages throughout the next semester.
Shirien Elamawy is making her return to the opinion pages, prepared to give our campus another perspective on the religion of Islam as well as the United States’ policies in the Middle East – how they effect the Muslim world and how they effect us as Americans.
Jack Collens and Daily Reveille newcomer Daniel Lumetta will be giving us weekly glimpses of our nation’s political scene. Collens will continue his role as everyone’s favorite liberal, while Lumetta is a card-carrying member of the GOP.
Bridging the gap between national politics and local politics will be Donald Hodge. Hodge is excited to return to the paper and shed light on how the upcoming presidential primaries will potentially effect our interests as residents of Baton Rouge and students.
Editor-in-chief Justin Fritscher and Ginger Gibson will be joining him on the local beat – both of these graduating seniors are ready to address the topics that ordinary students care about, as well as a few that students don’t care about but probably should.
Emily McCardle is continuing the Frosh Pit, providing the campus with a glimpse into the frenzied life of a second semester freshman.
Our opinion section is also expanding its coverage to deal with the exciting advances our University is helping to foster by adding a regular science columnist – Amber Scroggs. Scroggs is going to be looking at the ways in which advancements in the scientific community affect us as a University while situating these breakthroughs within the world we join upon graduation.
Continuing our social coverage will be Eric Freeman. Freeman will be joined by Daily Reveille newcomer and graduate student Skylar Gremillion. Both Gremillion and Freeman are ready to look at our dynamic campus culture, showing us the ways it deviates from the world around us as well as what our beliefs say about us.
Rounding us out will be the return of our pop-culture, celebrity and humor columns – Caitlyn Scott and I will dredge the depths of the television cesspool watching the primetime TV you miss every time you study. Joining us is Baton Rouge’s finest improviser, Ryan Sands, who is ready to give our readers his own version of the sorely missed “Off The Cuff.”
Add into the mix The Daily Reveille’s finest cartoonists Zach McGovern and Nate Monroe, and you have the complete Spring 2008 opinion lineup. Check www.lsureveille.com throughout the winter break to get a sneak preview of what these guys have in store for you – both in print and in our newly expanded blog, where we’ll provide you exclusive online content.
