Unlike the majority of LSU’s campus, the men’s basketball team will not take a break following the conclusion of finals week Dec. 15. In fact, the Tigers will just be getting started. Beginning with a home game that Saturday against in-state foe Northwestern State, the Tigers will play 10 games over the five-week-long winter break. Visiting the PMAC on consecutive Saturdays in late December are two teams LSU played this past season on a week-long road trip to the west coast. The Tigers will square off against Pac-10 opponents Oregon State on Dec. 22 and Washington on Dec. 29. Neither team is currently ranked in The Associate Press Top 25. The toughest team LSU will face in terms of current rankings is Texas A&M. The Tigers will travel to College Station on Jan. 5 to battle the No. 14 Aggies. LSU’s 64-52 win against Texas A&M in the PMAC a year ago was one of the few significant victories the Tigers recorded all season. After its trip to Texas, LSU will play the following Wednesday when Mississippi State travels to Baton Rouge to kick off Southeastern Conference competition. The Bulldogs return two starters from a team that finished 21-14 a year ago and claimed a share of the SEC Western Division Championship. LSU dropped both of its games against Mississippi State this past season. Entering Thursday night’s game against Villanova, which ended after press time, LSU held a 5-2 record and was undefeated at home this season.
