BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A candidate for Baton Rouge City Court judge has died.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office says Beverly Robinson-Downs died Monday of an apparent heart attack.
The 53-year-old had worked as a public defender and was slated to run against five other candidates April 4 for the vacant city court judgeship. The Division B seat opened when Trudy White was elected to a state district court seat last fall.
The Secretary of State’s Office says qualifying for the city court judgeship reopened — as required by law — Tuesday and ends at 5 p.m. Thursday. Other candidates in the race are Donald Dobbins, Kevin “Lovell” James, Tarvald Anthony Smith, Kelli Terrell Temple and Arthur R. Thomas.
Robinson-Downs graduated from Tulane University and Southern University Law School. She was a golden member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Louisiana and Baton Rouge Bar Associations.
