BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 39-year-old Denham Springs man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the November 2006 shooting death of a co-owner of Slippery Pete’s bar in Baton Rouge.
Kyle Spring, who claimed he shot 58-year-old Bill Franchuk in self-defense outside the bar, will be sentenced June 17 by state Judge Tony Marabella.
Second-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
Marabella said on Friday he believes Spring was intoxicated when he shot Franchuk at close range with a rifle.
Spring’s attorney, David Bourland, said he will appeal.
