BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Woman’s Hospital is looking for women who recently were pregnant and diagnosed with gestational diabetes during their pregnancy to take part in a Metabolic Screening Program.
The study is part of the hospital research department’s initiative to develop screening strategies to diagnose and prevent diabetes in at-risk women with a recent history of gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes develops after years of unrecognized diabetes risk factors lead to overt manifestations during pregnancy. Between 30 percent and 70 percent of women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes will develop Type 2 diabetes after they give birth.
All screenings, as part of the study, are free and results will be kept confidential.
Anyone interested in participating should call Woman’s Hospital at 225-231-5275.
