LSU sophomore third baseman Jessica Mouse’s seventh-inning home run lifted the Tigers past Mississippi State, 5-4, in game one of the three-game series. Mouse’s home run was her second hit of the game and her first home run of the season. The Tigers (19-6, 6-2) were trailing by two in the first inning after Mississippi State freshman infielder Kaili Smith hit a two-RBI single. The Tigers fought back with four runs in the third, highlighted by junior outfielder Rachel Mitchell’s three-run home run. Mississippi State (14-14, 0-8) tied the game, 4-4, in the bottom of the sixth inning after Smith doubled to right center, scoring two. LSU freshman pitcher Brittany Mack shut the Bulldogs down in game two, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out six. LSU’s four-run third inning was all it took to propel the Tigers past the Bulldogs in game two. The Tigers were led by Mitchell, who went 2-for 4 at the plate, including a two-RBI double. —- Contact Jarred LeBlanc at [email protected]
