After weeks of grueling competition on outdoor courts and gymnasium floors, basketball intramurals move to the grandiose stage of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center tonight for the championships.Your Mom will play the Hot Shots at 7 p.m. for the women’s championship.In the co-rec division, Dunkin’ Donuts will face the Honeybees at 8 p.m. A familiar face will play in the men’s overall championship game at 9 p.m. as Kappa Sigma A will return to the finals to compete against Los Pandieros.Clay Boulware, general studies senior and Kappa Sigma player, said his team is excited to play in the championship game.”It’s going to be up and down all night,” Boulware said.Kappa Sigma A defeated Sigma Nu A, 52-42, Wednesday night after only leading by one point at halftime.”We need to keep our composure and make our shots,” the senior said about the championship against Los Pandieros. Los Pandieros beat The Coup, 50-46, Wednesday night to advance to the championship.The basketball champions will not be able to play in the regional tournament but will have the opportunity to compete in the national tournament.Matt Boyer, assistant director of leagues and tournaments, said the national tournament is in either Raleigh, N.C., or Detroit, Mich.The University Student Recreation Complex would be able to cover the entry fee but not travel expenses.The winners of the 3-on-3 Hoop Challenge held Feb. 17 will play against the rest of the SEC in Tampa Bay, Fla., from March 12-15. They will compete for prizes as well as a shot at the SEC Fanfest championship.
