BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Jindal administration takes a second try Wednesday at getting legislative approval for its first stimulus spending plan, for $300 million in road work.
Lawmakers stalled the proposal two weeks ago when the governor was getting heavy national attention for his opposition to parts of the stimulus. Legislators complained they had too little time to review the list and no say in choosing the projects.
Now, with the national attention on Jindal fading slightly, lawmakers on the joint House and Senate budget committee are taking up the road and bridge work proposal again.
Gov. Bobby Jindal says if lawmakers want to change the list, that’s fine — but they need to do it quickly. He says a list of transportation projects must get to federal officials by March 19.—-Contact The Daily Reveille news staff at [email protected]
