NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The one year anniversary of the death of New Orleans restaurateur Al Copeland will be marked with a special tribute and fundraising effort at Wednesday night’s Hornets game.
During halftime of the Hornets game with the Denver Nuggets, the Al Copeland Foundation — which sponsors the Chris Paul Basketball Camp — will announce a limited edition CP3 wristband with proceeds helping with merkel cell carcinoma research. That’s the disease that took Copeland’s life.
Copeland founded Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken, as well as other restaurants.
Besides the funds raised from the sale of the bracelets, the Al Copeland Foundation will donate $15,000 to the Chris Paul Basketball Camp. Copeland’s helps provide scholarships for children of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Louisiana to attend the camp.
