The No. 17 Tigers finished 28th at the 2009 NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas. LSU picked up three All-America honors for relay performances.The Tigers took 16th in the 400-yard freestyle relay and in the 400-yard medley relay. LSU also finished 12th in the 200-yard freestyle relay.LSU senior Christoph Lubenau had the best individual finish for the Tigers, placing 11th in the 100-yard butterfly.The Auburn Tigers tallied 526 points to claim their eighth national championship.”This is just a great way to finish the meet,” Auburn assistant coach Brett Hawke said in a news release. “It’s a great tribute to [Auburn head coach] Richard Quick and what he means to this program. It’s a huge win for this program and was a total team effort. There’s not oneperson that stood out amongst us. We knew if we came out and won most of the relays, we would win the title. We won four out of five (relays) and that was our goal.”In December, Quick was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and was not with the team for the meet.”It has been an emotional time with Richard’s situation,” Auburn senior Logan Madson said in a news release. “We all wanted to fight harder because of him and that’s what we talked about this morning. We wanted to race for him, feel pain for him because what he is goingthrough is so difficult.”Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia also finished in the top- 10 nationally.
