The best intramural basketball teams competed under the bright lights of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Thursday night, and two champions were crowned. The Dunkin’ Donuts defeated the Honeybees, 39-34, to claim the co-rec championship.The Dunkin’ Donuts led most of the game, claiming their second intramural championship after winning the flag football title in the fall. “It feels good to win another championship,” said Kraig Cason, accounting senior and Dunkin’ Donuts player.Cason said his team “made shots when it counted” and out-hustled the Honeybees.Los Pandieros beat Kappa Sigma A to capture the men’s overall championship.Kappa Sigma A charged in the second half, cutting Los Pandieros’ lead to 3 points with one minute to play.But Los Pandieros did not let up, and won, 43-39.Jonathan Floyd, communication studies senior and Los Pandieros player, said his team has been trying to get to the championship for five years.”We finally made it to the PMAC,” Floyd said.The players enjoyed playing in the same buildings as LSU basketball players.”It felt like that game mattered more,” Cason said.Floyd said “this is the next best thing” to playing college basketball.Matt Boyer, assistant director of leagues and tournaments, said the champions will have the opportunity to play in the national tournament, but the University Student Recreation Complex would only be able to cover the entry fee.The women’s championship game was rescheduled because some members of the Hot Shots won the 3-on-3 tournament at LSU and were invited to attend the Quaker State 3-on-3 Challenge in Tampa Bay, Fla., this weekend. The Monstars are representing LSU in the men’s division at the Challenge. The teams will compete for prizes as well as a shot at the SEC Fanfest championship.Boyer said the date for the women’s championship will be announced once the team gets back from Tampa. Your Mom will play the Hot Shots in the women’s title game.
