NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Association of Zoos and Aquariums announced that Audubon Aquarium of the Americas has been granted accreditation by the association’s independent accreditation commission.
Association President Jim Maddy said on Monday that the Audubon facility has become one of the top aquariums in North America. To be accredited, the aquarium underwent a thorough investigation to ensure it has and will continue to meet ever-rising standards, including animal care, veterinary programs, conservation, education, and safety.
AZA requires zoos and aquariums to successfully complete the accreditation process in order to be members of the association. They are required to resubmit to the process every five years.
