The No. 18 LSU men’s golf team finished tied for 12th at the Schenkel/E-Z Go Invitational at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.Fellow Southeastern Conference foe No. 16 South Carolina won the event with a score of 1-over par 865.No. 15 Tennessee and NC State finished a close second, as both teams shot a 3-over 867.NC State’s Matt Hill fired a 3-under par 69 on the final day to take home the individual title. Hill, the No. 11 golfer in the country, finished the weekend with a 7-under 209.As a team, LSU shot a 22-over 886 on the weekend.LSU freshman golfer Sang Yi led the Tigers on the individual leaderboard, finishing in a six-way tie for fourth place after shooting a 1-over 213.Yi’s fourth place finish now gives him a team-leading third Top 10 finish this season.His previous best was in September, when he tied for fifth place at the Gopher Invitational.Yi started the opening round Friday on a torrid pace and ended the day tied atop the leaderboard with a 3-under 69.His hot start carried over to Saturday, as Yi found himself only a shot back heading into the final round after shooting an even-par 72.Hill, Florida’s Tim McKenney and Augusta State’s Taylor Floyd entered Sunday’s final round with a one-stroke lead after finishing the day at 4-under 140 for the championship.Yi tried to become the second Tiger in as many tournaments to bring an individual title back to Baton Rouge.Sophomore John Peterson won the John Hayt Invitational last month, leading the Tigers to the overall team title.Peterson, the No. 32 golfer in the NCAA, finished in an eight-way tie for 42nd place with fellow LSU sophomore Andrew Loupe.Peterson and Loupe finished with a three-day total of 7-over 223.Peterson, a Forth Worth, Texas, native, got off to a slow start Friday, struggling to find his shot with a 9-over 81.
