BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — University of Louisiana at Monroe officials are among the first to announce opposition to a proposal to allow concealed handguns on college campuses.
The sponsor of the bill, Rep. Ernest Wooton, scrapped the proposal last year amid strong opposition from higher education officials. But the Belle Chasse Republican refiled it this year.
The president of Louisiana-Monroe, James Cofer, has accepted resolutions from faculty, staff and students expressing opposition to the Wooton bill.
The legislative session begins April 27.—-Contact The Daily Reveille news staff at [email protected]
