The No. 35 LSU men’s tennis team lost to No. 15 Texas A&M, 4-3, on Saturday at George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.”It was an extremely close match all the way up and down, starting in doubles,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “On court one we weren’t having a great day, and on two we were just a little bit off.”In doubles competition, the Aggies’ No. 3 ranked duo of Conor Pollock and Austin Krajicek proved to be too much for LSU’s No. 12 team of senior Michael Venus and freshman Neal Skupski, defeating them, 8-3.Sophomores Sebastian Carlsson and Julien Gauthier took the only win in doubles competition for the Tigers. The tandem defeated Marcus Lunt and Calon Alpar, 9-8. But Texas A&M took the doubles point winning two out of three doubles matches. In singles competition, Venus, ranked No. 9 in the nation, scored the Tiger’s first point by beating No. 16 Pollock in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.Gauthier made the score 2-1 after defeating A&M’s Kayvon Karimi, 6-1, 6-0.”Michael, Julien and Neal got nice wins,” Brown said. But the Tigers could not hold on. The Aggies won the next three of four singles matches to clinch the match, 4-3.LSU did prevail in the last match as freshman Neal Skupski took down Texas A&M’s Alexey Grigorov, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6.The Tigers return to the courts Saturday when they take on Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.——Contact Tyler Harvey at [email protected]
