The University’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity is hosting Act Speak Build week in conjunction with other colligate chapters across the country.
The group will have displays and activities in Free Speech Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the week to inform students of sub-standard housing issues that people face, even in Baton Rouge.
“You would be very surprised how many people around the state and around the country … don’t live in adequate housing,” said Rebecca Krimmel, Habitat for Humanity’s advocacy chair for the University. “Either because they are charged too much or there are too many peoplein the house they live in, or it is falling apart.”
During spring break, Habitat for Humanity will send 20 University students to Immokalee, Fl. to help construct homes in the area.
“You get to build all day and then at night go to the beach and relax,” Krimmel said. “It’s a great opportunity, and you get to actually do something with your spring break.”—-Contact Xerxes Wilson at [email protected]
