U.S. Congressman Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge, voted today to bring up legislation directing the Treasury Secretary to recoup $165 million in bonuses given to AIG executives and requiring the Treasury Secretary to approve future bonus payments to TARP — Troubled Asset Relief Program — recipients.”Auto workers are making sacrifices to save their companies,” Cassidy said in a news release. “Why aren’t these executives?”Cassidy voted to bring H.R. 1577 for “immediate consideration today,” but the measure failed by a 221-182 vote, according to the release.According to the release, $173.8 billion to date has been spent bailing out AIG.——Contact Nicholas Persac at [email protected]
