Junior sprinter Samantha Henry and sophomore weight thrower Walter Henning both received awards from the Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.Henry was named the Division I Women’s South Central Region Track Athlete of the Year, and Henning won the Division I Men’s South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year award.Henry, who won the 60-meter dash (7.21 seconds) and 200-meter dash (23.45 seconds) at the SEC Championships, is No. 2 nationally in the 60-meter dash and No. 5 nationally in the 200-meter dash.Henning has won every weight throw competition he has participated in as a Tiger. His throw of 74 feet, 5 1/2 inches at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships set a new school and personal record.Both athletes will represent LSU at the NCAA Track and Field Indoor Championships this weekend at College Station, Texas.
