LSU forward LaSondra Barrett was named the Southeastern Conference coaches’ Co-Freshman of the Year, and junior guard Allison Hightower won All-SEC First Team honors, the league office announced today.Hightower was a unanimous selection in the first All-SEC recognition of her career, and she was also named to the SEC All-Defensive Team. It is the sixth straight year LSU has a player named to the first team, the longest streak in the league.”It’s a great honor,” Hightower said in a news release. “When I heard about it this morning from Coach [Van Chancellor], I was very excited. It is a great honor and privilege to be recognized among the best players in this league.”Barrett, who was also voted to the SEC All-Freshman team, shares the Freshman of the Year award with Arkansas’ Ciera Ricketts. Barrett is the first LSU player to earn the award since Seimone Augustus in 2003.”It is a great award, but the fact we are on a five-game winning streak makes it even better,” Barrett said in a news release. “We are playing well at the right time of the year.”Auburn’s Nell Fortner is the SEC Coach of the Year, and Auburn senior guard DeWanna Bonner is Player of the Year.
