The LSU track and field team qualified five athletes for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in its first outdoor meet of the season at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette. Sophomore Gabriel Mvumvure, an NCAA 200-meter dash semifinalist last season, set regional qualifying times in the 100-meter dash (10.43 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (21.15 seconds). Junior thrower Chris Bless finished second in the hammer throw, setting a regional qualifying mark of 189 feet, 4 inches. For the Lady Tigers, senior Anna Lyons won the women’s javelin with a regional qualifying mark of 156 feet, 4 inches. Junior Katelyn Rodrigue won the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 1 1/2 inches, and freshman Cassandra Tate won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.96 seconds. Most of the athletes who competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships did not make the trip to LSU’s first outdoor competition of the season. —- Contact Rowan Kavner at [email protected]
