HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Police say a drunk driver, who apparently ran off the road and into a group of pedestrians near Southeastern Louisiana University, killed three people and injured two others.
University officials confirmed the accident, which happened about 2 a.m. Friday.
According to Lt. Vincent Giannoble, the driver, Derek L. Quebedeaux, apparently ran off the roadway and stuck the victims before leaving the scene.
Giannoble says officers located the suspect’s car in front of a residence. Quebedeaux was taken into custody and booked with three counts of vehicular negligent homicide, two counts of vehicular negligent injury, DWI, reckless operation and hit and run.
The deceased victims were identified as: 23-year-old Maxime Profit of France, 24-year-old Thurman Lowe, of Kenner and 19-year-old Beth Boudreaux, of Husser, La.
