NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency says more than $809 million in federal funding has poured into Louisiana in the six months since hurricanes Gustav and Ike struck parts of the state’s coastline.
FEMA says more than 82,000 individuals and households in Louisiana have received roughly $268 million in grants for housing to replace personal property and to cover other expenses stemming from September’s storms.
The federal government has offered up to 18 months of rental assistance to more than 16,000 families displaced by Gustav or Ike.
And FEMA also says it has agreed to pay more than $348 million for debris removal and emergency protective measures and has allocated nearly $18 million so far to rebuild storm-damaged infrastructure.—-Contact The Daily Reveille news staff at [email protected]
