BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU will go to the state Legislature next month for the $120 million in construction funding needed if a deal is struck for Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center to become LSU’s teaching hospital.LSU System Vice President for Health Care Fred Cerise said LSU will ultimately need legislative approval of the plan under which LSU would close its Earl K. Long Medical Center.The antiquated hospital on Airline Highway serves the area’s poor and uninsured.Included in the Our Lady of the Lake construction is development of a trauma center, the addition of 60 hospital beds and construction of a medical education building.Acquiring the hospital funding is one of the Capital Region Legislative Delegation’s priorities for the legislative session that begins April 27.——Contact The Daily Reveille news staff at [email protected]
