The LSU swimming and diving teams broke several school records at the Georgia Last Chance Meet in Athens, Ga., this weekend, improving their chances of qualifying for the NCAA swimming and diving championships.”I think we came out here and did exactly what [LSU swimming coach] Adam [Schmitt] wanted us to,” said senior Katherine Noland.Ten LSU swimmers made the trip to Athens, Ga., and those 10 have to feel better about their chances after this weekend.Seniors Christoph Lubenau, Julius Gloeckner, Brandon Selts, Katie Gilmore, Monica McJunkin, sophomores Hannes Heyl, Kannon Betzen, Jane Trepp, junior Sean LeNeave and Noland made the trip for LSU.Gloeckner swam the 400-yard individual medley in 3 minutes, 45.10 seconds, .22 seconds off an NCAA automatic qualifying time. He also helped the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay swim a school record time of 1:18.15. On Sunday the group of Gloeckner, Heyl, LeNeave, and Selts cut that time down to 1 minute, 17.82 seconds.Gloeckner also picked up a school record in the 200-yard individual medley with a 1 minute, 45.96-second performance.Gilmore led off the women’s 200 freestyle relay and swam a personal best of 22.75 seconds.The LSU women find out Wednesday if they qualify for the NCAA women’s swimming and diving championships March 19-21.
