While some members of the LSU track and field teams competed Friday at the LSU Invitational, the men’s and women’s 4×400-meter relay teams and two 800-meter athletes were sent to the Cyclone National Qualifier in Ames, Iowa.
The meet was LSU’s final competition before the NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend.The men’s 4×400-meter relay team beat their previous seasonal-best time of 3 minutes, 9.58 seconds, by more than two seconds with a time of 3 minutes, 7.29 seconds. The team consisted of junior Armanti Hayes, sophomore Jamar Howard, freshman Ade Alleyne-Forte and freshman Robert Simmons. Sophomore Richard Jones and junior Jamaal James participated in the 800-meter run. Jones improved on his old provisional qualifying time of 1 minute, 49.87, clocking in with a time of 1 minute, 49.66 seconds. Junior Jamaal James could not beat his seasonal-best time of 1 minute, 49.85 seconds, as he finished in 1 minute, 49.94 seconds. The women’s 4×400-meter relay team finished in 3 minutes, 37.07 seconds, beating their previous seasonal-best time of 3 minutes, 37.50 seconds. The team consisted of freshman Cassandra Tate, sophomore Brittany Hall, junior Kayann Thompson and junior LaTavia Thomas. LSU travels to College Station, Texas, next weekend for the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
